WordCamp Europe 2025: Ideas, inspiration, and community in Basel

A speaker and panelist sit on a stage during a "Fireside chat with Mary Hubbard & Matt Mullenweg" at the European WordPress Congress, with a large audience attending.

Louise and Kelly spent a brilliant few days in Basel for WordCamp Europe 2025. As a WordPress agency, keeping up with the latest WordPress features and tools is essential, and there’s no better place to gather insights, inspiration, and connections than WCEU. The energy, ideas, and conversations we brought home are already sparking new thinking across the team.

Learning from the best

The speaker line-up this year was packed with practical takeaways and strategic insights. A few standout sessions for us included:

  • Figma Design Systems for WordPress Development by Ash Shaw — A smart look at bridging the gap between design and development using scalable design systems.
  • Leadership & Communication to Get Time Back by Aleksandra Lemańska — Full of practical advice on how to improve collaboration and reduce inefficiency.
  • Banking on WordPress with Tom Willmot and Jon Ang — A powerful reminder of WordPress’s potential in enterprise-level applications, including highly regulated industries.

Real conversations, real impact

One of the most exciting aspects of WordCamp is the chance to meet and share experiences with others in the community. We had an inspiring chat with Alexander Frison and his team at Syde GmbH about their use of AI to support translations on multilingual websites which we can apply now with a client’s website.

We also reconnected with industry friends and collaborators including Paul Halfpenny, Oliver Morrison, and Rachel Berry from Filter, Scott Jones from Illustrate Digital, and Hillevi Røstad from Dekode. It’s always refreshing to step outside our day-to-day and exchange ideas with peers facing similar challenges.

Celebrating Women in WordPress

Meeting up in person with Francesca Marano, Siobhan McKeown, and fellow mentors and mentees from the WP Includes – Women In WordPress community was a real highlight. These connections mean a lot; they help foster inclusion, visibility, and support across the wider ecosystem.

We also enjoyed catching up with Michelle Frechette, Birgit Olzem, and many more friends in the community. WordCamp continues to be a space where deep expertise meets warm, authentic connection — and that keeps us coming back.

Looking ahead

We left Basel buzzing with ideas to bring back to our work at Indigo Tree, from improving our design process to development workflows to exploring new approaches in multilingual WordPress projects. Events like WCEU are not just a chance to learn but to reflect and improve our service for our clients.

If you’re curious about how some of these insights could shape your next website project, get in touch. We’d love to share more.
